New review article: Diversity of structure, morphology and wetting of plant surfaces - Kerstin Koch, Bharat Bhushan and Wilhelm Barthlott
This review paper presents the diversity of plant surface structures, their importance in surface wetting and presents a guide for the description of plant surface structures. The article is designed as an introduction for biologists and non biologists and should stimulate the reader to initiate or intensify the study of biological surfaces and their potential use in biomimetics.

Abschlussveranstaltung des BMBF-Ideenwettbewerbs „Bionik - Innovationen aus der Natur“ am 19./20.06. Boris Striffler hält Vortrag über Biomimetische superhydrophobe Grenzflächen für Unterwasser-Anwendungen. Für diese Innovation erhielten Boris Striffler, Zdenek Cerman und Wilhelm Barthlott im letzten Jahr die Preisauszeichnung des Ideenwettbewerbs.
Woche der Umwelt in Berlin vom 04. - 07.06.: Vorstellung des Lotus-Effekts und superhydrophober Oberflächen im Park des Schlosses Bellevue. Schirmherr der Veranstaltung war Bundespräsident Horst Köhler.
